Migrant Health
The EAPS Working Group on Migrant Health dedicates itself to the interdisciplinary examination of the physical and mental health, wellbeing, and mortality of international migrant populations living in Europe. Today, we know how the health of migrants differs from the health of non-migrants across a wide range of health measures and according to, for example, where migrants were born, how long they have lived in their host county, and their reason for migration. We know less about why the health of migrants differs from non-migrants and what the consequences might be. Given the rising volume, diversity, and visibility of migrant populations across all of Europe, it has become crucial to do just that. By uniting academic experts on migration and health, our working group aims to overcome the data challenges that have come to define the research area, disentangle the myriad complexities and paradoxes that typify migrant health, and elucidate the nature of role of that the unique health of migrants has on the health of national receiving populations. Through facilitating and fostering research in this area in Europe, we endeavor to advance scientific knowledge and move the current evidence base forward, identify exciting new research directions, and directly inform public health and broader social policy.
