The Demographic Impact of Political Action

This conference was jointly organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Bevölkerungswissenschaft (DGBW) and EAPS. The scientific Program comprised 6 sessions during which 15 invited and several spontaneous papers were discussed by some 150 participants from all over Europe. The conference explored the possible demographic effects of policies in various domains of government, with the underlying assumption that the total demographic impact of these policies might well exceed the influence of policies with explicit demographic goals. A short note on the conference was published in the EAPS newsletter (1986,1) while a more extensive summary report (in German) by Charlotte Höhn and Nico van Nimwegen appeared in the Zeitschrift für Bevölkerungswissenschaft (1986, 1).
